A Name That Roars with Purpose: Welcoming Pope Leo XIV

At Brightside Industries, we recognize that moments of global transition often mirror moments of spiritual significance. Today, we pause to honor such a moment—the ascension of the new Pontiff, Pope Leo XIV.

For our partners and colleagues across the Philippines—many of whom are deeply rooted in Catholic faith—this is more than just a change in leadership. It is a call to hope, to unity, and to strength.

The name “Leo” means lion, a symbol long associated with courage, guardianship, and righteous leadership. Throughout Church history, Popes who bore the name Leo have stood firm in the face of division, turmoil, and uncertainty. Leo I, later called the Great, met Attila the Hun and persuaded him to turn away from Rome. Leo XIII helped shape the moral conscience of the modern world, calling for justice for the working poor while preserving the Church’s spiritual compass.

By choosing the name Leo XIV, the new Holy Father connects himself to that lineage of bold, faithful leadership—and perhaps signals a desire to lead the Church through today’s complex world with both conviction and compassion.

Lion of Light – A Reflection on Leo XIV

In choosing the name of lion-heart and strength,

Leo walks where history runs deep.

He echoes the voice that calmed the Huns,

And lifts the poor from silence steep.

A bridge between the ancient and the now,

He stands where truth and mercy meet—

With echoes of justice in every vow,

And peace beneath his feet.

The fourteenth flame in a line of fire,

He kindles what the world forgot:

That courage leads, and faith inspires,

Where hope and healing plot.

May Leo XIV be both shield and flame,

For a world in need of grace.

A shepherd true, who bears the name—

Of strength, and heart, and sacred place.
